The latest PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games have been announced, and the line-up includes a banger 50-hour action RPG that will please Ghost of Tsushima fans.
For many, and perhaps rightly so, Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best games of its generation. It tells the story of a young samurai, Jin Sakai, raised in nobility, who becomes a fearless warrior and abides by a strict, unwavering code.
Yet, when a surge of ruthless Mongols invades his homeland of Tsushima, Jin is forced to question everything he’s been taught in life to save his family and the people of his island, but at what cost? On top of that, it’s got fantastic combat, exploration and stunning visuals. It’s easy to understand why Ghost of Tsushima is held in such high regard.
PlayStation Plus gets a great Ghost of Tsushima alternative
Right now, the PlayStation 5 version of Ghost of Tsushima, the ‘Director’s Cut’, is available on PS Plus Extra and Premium at no extra cost. However, with this version of the game releasing in 2021, there’s a good chance that those who were interested have long finished with it. Thankfully, there is an alternative, and that’s Tecmo Koei’s Rise of the Ronin.
Announced with the latest batch of PlayStation Plus titles and available now, Rise of the Ronin is a challenging action RPG set in Japan, during the Batumatsu period at the beginning of 1863. So it’s a much later game than Ghost of Tsushima, which takes place in the 1274 Kamakura period.
The community reacts to Rise of the Ronin on PS Plus
“Now it can go off my wishlist,” revealed Accomplished_Low_186. “Thank god, I didn’t pull the trigger during the last sale.”
“This game will put my games played on PlayStation Plus over $1,000 this year for a $120 a year subscription, and yet people like to cry that PlayStation Plus isn’t a good deal,” declared Woody_The_Gamer.

There are plenty of hours to be spent in Rise of the Ronin
According to the aggregate website ‘How Long to Beat’, which averages video game playtime based on users’ data, Rise of the Ronin can take anywhere between 50 and nearly 70 hours to complete. Perhaps even longer, if you’re the kind of gamer who likes to take their time.
There’s no date for how long Rise of the Ronin will remain on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, but it should be safe to assume that it will be sticking around for at least six months, hopefully. Rise of the Ronin is also available on PC.
