Roblox has introduced ‘Build’, a new AI creation tool for mobile users that lets them turn text prompts into a basic game.

The use of AI has been steadily increasing across game development, with several major players, including Ubisoft, Sony, and others, adopting the technology. Now, Roblox has announced a new use for this technology, which expands their mission of bringing in more game creators into the mix.

How Does Roblox’s Build Tool Work

Build is a mobile-first creation tab within the Roblox app that will release alongside a new suite of AI-powered tools in Studio, catering to creators of all levels. These new tools will begin testing on July 28. With Build, creators can use text prompts to create a basic game. For example, a creator might input the prompt, “Let’s make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles.” Build will then generate a starting point for the creator to iterate on, playtest, and share with friends or publish on Roblox.

Build is powered by a variety of AI models, including both open-gameplay mechanics, environment design, character development, visual style, sound effects, and more, allowing creators to work efficiently without leaving the app. Additionally, Build can generate functional 3D objects and even complete 3D scenes. The Build tool for Roblox, which includes features like game publishing, will be available in a public alpha starting July 28 in New Zealand. This will be expanded to more regions in the coming months. The tool can be used by age-verified users aged 9 and older, while the games published through Build will be accessible only to age-verified users aged 16 and older. The basic version of this tool is free, but additional paid options are also available.
