I think we can all agree that Mister Terrific was the coolest thing to come out of James Gunn’s Superman. He’s also my favorite DC Comics character, and as played by Edi Gathegi, who also played Darwin inX-Men: First Class, I couldn’t be happier with the way he was depicted. Obviously, Gunn was pretty happy about it, too, because a Mister Terrific series is in the works
The news was buried in THR’s recent expose of the Supergirl fiasco. A Mister Terrific series is in the works at DC Studios, with Allan Heinberg writing the pilot. This possibility was first hinted at last summer
Heinberg is no joke. He not only co-created the Young Avengers for Marvel Comics, he’s also written for such shows as The Sandman, Grey’s Anatomy, and Gilmore Girls. Heinberg also wrote the 2017Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot, arguably the most successful film of the Zack Snyder era
Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific is generally regarded as the 3rd smartest person in the world. He uses that intelligence to construct advanced technology, such as his T-Spheres which kicked all kinds of ass in the movie
While this project sounds potentially cool, it’s early on and there isn’t an official greenlight. Plus, the story reminds us that DC Studios is also developing a Jimmy Olsen series for HBO Max, with Skyler Gisondo reprising the “breakout” role of Clark Kent’s sidekick. The first season of that is expected to focus on Gorilla Grodd. That show sounds like a horrible idea, by the way
So even as Supergirl has tanked, Gunn and Co. are continuing to move forward in expanding the DCU. In a way, I take that as a positive sign that they aren’t letting one misstep derail everything. At the same time, I find it hard to get too excited about anything until things are on a more solid footing
