Marvel is currently in the midst of publishing Avengers: Armageddon, easily their most significant crossover event of 2026. This series pits the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Wolverine against Red Hulk in a conflict whose lasting impact will rival that of 2004’s Avengers: Disassembled. It’s a story that’s quickly growing too big to be contained within one limited series, which is where Black Panther/Namor: Doomed comes in.

Black Panther/Namor: Doomed is a five-issue series that explores how T’Challa and Namor factor into this conflict. These two powerful monarchs will be drawn into Hell itself, where they’ll encounter the restless spirit of Doctor Doom. The series is Parker and Griffin Sheridan (Marvel Zombies: Red Band) and illustrated by Stefano Nesi (Black Panther: Intergalactic), with cover art by Dave Johnson (Punisher MAX: Get Fury)

Check out the slideshow gallery below for an exclusive preview of Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1:

Given that all three characters are super-powered kings of small but powerful nations, it should come as no surprise that T’Challa, Namor, and Doom have developed a fascinating dynamic over the decades. Parker and Sheridan tell IGN that exploring this three-way dynamic is a big part of the appeal of this series.

“This is the most exciting part of the project for us,” the writers say. “The interplay between these three (and the various pairings within) lends itself so perfectly to the soap opera action of comics. We are huge Silver Age fans, so we’re drawing on all our appreciation for the era with which these rivalries started to craft something that feels like it is taking these characters to their next chapter in the Marvel Universe.”

Again, this series spins directly out of the events of Avengers: Armageddon, and Doomed will contribute to the larger narrative in a significant way. But the creators are ultimately most focused on telling a good, cohesive story that stands on its own.

“Our main focus was not to tie-in to any given series, but to tell an exciting character drama that is also packed with as much action as we can fit into five issues.”

“This is, more or less, our first formal outing in the 616 Universe, so we really wanted this series to be something that could stand on its own,” Parker and Sheridan say. “Of course, folks reading Captain America and Avengers: Armageddon will find even more to resonate with, but they mostly serve as the narrative bedrock which our series uses as foundation. Our main focus was not to tie-in to any given series, but to tell an exciting character drama that is also packed with as much action as we can fit into five issues.”

As for what draws T’CHalla and Namor into Hell in the first place? The writers don’t want to give away too much, but it all starts when Atlantis is attacked by demons and Namor is forced to look to one of his biggest rivals for aid.

“We can say… an ominous sight hangs over the world as Atlantis is attacked by demonic forces, which forces Namor to turn to one of his greatest foes for help — T’Challa,” the writers say. “As for how Doom factors into all this… our lips must remain sealed for the time being, but rest assured, we find Doom in a very exciting situation at the onset of this epic, and we cannot wait for folks to see what happens.”

Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1 will be released on September 2. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.

In other Avengers: Armageddon news, Marvel revealed a new series spinning ouit of that book called Maximum X-Men.
