And I can’t wait
Getting me to commit to a new TV show is no easy task. If it’s a limited series with every episode available at once, I’m in. But if you expect me to tune in week after week, the show has to seriously deliver. Somehow, I recently found exactly that with Peacock’s Married at First Sight, and after just one episode, I was completely hooked.
If you’ve somehow never watched Married at First Sight, the premise is as wild as it sounds. Three to five couples are matched by relationship experts and agree to marry the very first time they meet. (Yes, their first introduction happens at the altar in front of all their friends and family.)
After saying “I do,” the newlyweds head off on their honeymoon before moving in together for eight weeks. At the end of the experiment, they have to decide whether to stay married or get divorced.
Season 20 follows a group of Seattle singles who are putting their love lives entirely in the hands of the experts. Going into the premiere, I figured it would be slow and full of mostly introductions. Instead, it felt like the kind of first episode that immediately pulls you in and refuses to let go.
Within an hour, we met a cast that already feels made for TV, including a seasoned reality star who’s been on Netflix‘s The Circle and Perfect Match, a musically inclined athlete who never quite seems to read the room, and a restaurant owner who leaves his phone number on customers’ receipts to name a few.
Then there are the family members, who honestly deserve their own show. One father seems more interested in stealing the spotlight than attending the wedding. And just when I thought the episode couldn’t get any messier, it ended on a cliffhanger that had me literally gasping.
Needless to say, I was sold.
While Married at First Sight has been around for years, Peacock is now home to season 20, which is exactly how I stumbled across it during a rainy Saturday binge.
Even better, three new episodes drop each week, making it dangerously easy to stay invested. If the premiere is any indication, this season is going to be an absolute roller coaster, and I can’t wait for more.
