When Sony announced last month that they were transitioning to a disc-less gaming future with <a href="https://comicvibe.com/sonys-plan-to-kill-physical-playstation-discs-faces-gamer-backlash/” title=”Sony’s Plan to Kill Physical PlayStation Discs Faces Gamer Backlash”>PlayStation consoles, some gamers might have thought that this meant a lot more gamers would be moving to PC, given that, at the very least, players can choose which digital storefront to buy their games from instead of being monopolized by the platform holder.

If that’s enough of a reason for you to ditch the PS6 to switch to PC gaming, you’re not alone. But apparently, Sony doesn’t think discs will be a big enough difference for gamers to jump from PlayStation to PC gaming.

This is something the company publicly confirmed today.

PlayStation’s “Game Environment” Being Stable Is a Strength It Has Against PC Gaming Per Sony’s CFO

As part of Sony’s financial report today, a Q&A portion was held with Sony CFO Lin Tao. In it, the Sony boss explained why they don’t think PlayStation gamers will jump to PC gaming just because they’re moving away from physical game releases.

Tao explains, “We don’t feel that the disc is the factor to differentiate from the PC…Our strength is the curated content. That’s one of our strengths. The game environment being stable. That’s another strength. And compared to high-end gaming PCs, our products are more affordable. So we don’t feel that the disc itself is a strong factor for differentiation. So going forward we can coexist peacefully with PC games.”

In your opinion, is Tao correct? Sony abandoning physical game media not a big enough reason to leave the PlayStation ecosystem for PC gaming? We talked about this very thing earlier this month when we wrote that Sony’s betting games are too invested in the PlayStation ecosystem to leave.

Of course, with Sony not porting its first-party single-player games to PC anymore, that might be enough for some people to just stick it out on the PS6. I also wouldn’t be surprised if a considerable number of gamers opt for a gaming PC setup instead of picking up Sony’s next-gen console. I mean, at the very least, PC games aren’t locked to just one digital storefront where the platform holder controls the pricing.

In the same Q&A, Sony said they are“cautiously” proceeding with their plans to end physical game discs, and that the backlash has not impacted their business so far.

When it comes to the PS6, we uncovered early info on cloud streaming tech, a new horror game in development for Sony’s next-gen platform. Not only that, but we recently spotted a patent that Sony is looking into modular controller tech with a touchscreen interface, which is something we think would fit as the next-gen console’s controller.
