Fifteen months in. While many open-world titles ship and settle, Funcom spent that window rebuilding almost every corner of Dune: Awakening, and now the console version arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox with the entire back catalogue of changes stitched from day one. PC players get the same update in parallel.
Full single-player, no compromises
For anyone who bounced off the multiplayer-first framing earlier, this is the door in. The entire game runs solo now. All the content, all the features, the full story, the Deep Desert. Deep gameplay customization allows you to tweak everything from harvesting rates to death penalties to experience gain. Whether you want to play it slow or play it punishing, the knobs are all there.
Multiplayer, rebuilt around choice
Multiplayer has been substantially remade since launch. Here are the major structural changes:
- PvP is fully optional. The entire game can be played in PvE, including the Deep Desert. The PvP version of the Deep Desert sticks around for players who want the risk, and now offers epic rewards to match it.
- You do not have to lose things anymore. Save your base, recover your vehicles, taxes are gone, the death penalty is reduced. Take a long break and come back to your progress intact.
- A rebuilt endgame. New maps, new dungeons, new dynamic encounters, and a mission-driven rise through the ranks of the Atreides or the Harkonnen. Two new progression systems, Augmentations and Specializations, sit underneath it.
- Refined action combat. Refined action gameplay and combat, especially melee.
- Better performance. Console-driven optimization work that also flows through to the PC build.
The update also delivers the finale of Book One, the cinematic story arc that has been unfolding across the game’s post-launch content. Console players get to run the whole arc for the first time. PC players who have been with the game since PC launch finally get the payoff the last few chapters were building toward.
Filmic Archive DLC: dress the part
The timing of the console launch lines up with something bigger. Dune: Part Three hits cinemas on December 18.
The new Filmic Archive DLC is available on every platform for $9.99 and it is exactly what long-time Dune fans have been quietly wanting. From the Caladan Stormcoat worn by Duke Leto and Paul in Dune: Part One to the Aegis of an Unwalked Path armor drawn from Paul Atreides’ visions of the Fremen holy warriors in Dune: Part Two, now you can look the part of a true master of Arrakis. The DLC ships with 73 new Sardaukar building pieces, plus decorative items, weapons, and emotes.

Console launch, day one on Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass members get the game on day one, with 20% off the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition if they want to upgrade. The game is fully XBOX Play Anywhere enabled, meaning progression will be carried over whether you’re playing it on an XBOX console, Gaming. Cross-play between platforms is on the roadmap for after launch
A physical PlayStation 5 edition is on shelves too. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe is distributing across EMEA, Australia, and New Zealand. Solutions 2 GO handles the Americas, and Spike Chunsoft is handling Japan with a slightly later October 29 street date.
A 50% Steam discount, running until October 8
To mark the update, Dune: Awakening is 50% off on Steam, the deepest discount the game has seen so far. The sale runs until October 8. New players jumping in for the first time get every one of the last fifteen months of updates included from the moment they hit play.
