The announcements revealed that audiences in Taiwan, Serbia, Montenegro, and Sweden will be among the first outside Japan to screen the adaptation, marking the start of the film’s global distribution strategy. Blue Lock Live-Action: From Manga Panel to Movie Screen

The film adapts Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura’s football manga, Blue Lock, which started serializing in August 2018 on Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. The premise follows striker Yoichi Isagi as he enters Japan’s football federation’s Blue Lock program, where 300 forwards compete for a single opportunity to lead the country’s national football team.

Fumiya Takahashi leads the cast as protagonist Yoichi Isagi, with Masataka Kubota playing the program’s architect, Jinpachi Ego. Yūsuke Taki, known forLand of Tanabata and Girl Gun Lady, directs the live-action film
adapting the opening First Selection arc of Blue Lock.

The film arrives on the back of the manga’s commercial run and anime adaptation from studio 8bit. The manga topped Oricon’s annual chart in 2023 with 10.52M copies sold in Japan.

Blue Lock manga crossed 65M copies in circulation by August 2026, expanding the franchise’s reach. The anime is also preparing for its third season, adapting the Neo Egoist League arc. Combined with its manga and anime, a global theatrical rollout positions Blue Lock as one of Japan’s significant multimedia IPs.
