Disney+ will not be proceeding with the proposed live-action “Power Rangers” TV series first announced back in 2025.

The team behind the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” TV series were slated to write, showrun and produce the show for the streamer along with Hasbro and 20th Century TV.

The aim was to “reinvent the franchise for a new generation of fans while also honouring the original”. Since then, there’s been no real update on it.

Now though, Deadline reports that the Mouse House has passed on the project, with the reasoning tied to economic rather than creative ones.

Simply, the cost of mounting a “high-end, live-action superhero series” is not favourable for an IP that Disney doesn’t own (Hasbro does).

The original series followed five teenagers who gain the ability to ‘morph’ into superheroes known as the Power Rangers, complete with their own mech fighters. A film version of the series was released in 1995.

Since then, the property has undergone several different iterations, most notably the $100 million budgeted film reboot in 2017 from Lionsgate, which added a more serious take on the franchise. That film grossed only $142 million, and franchise plans were scrapped.
