More than 50 years after terrifying audiences, The Exorcist is still widely considered one of the scariest movies ever made. Yet, for whatever reason, the collectibles market has never fully embraced William Friedkin‘s horror masterpiece.
That finally appears to be changing.
San Diego Comic-Con is delivering not one, but two major reveals for fans of the 1973 classic, including the first-ever collectible of one of the film’s most iconic characters.
Infinite Statue Unveils Father Merrin and Regan
The biggest surprise comes from Kaustic Plastik and Infinite Statue, which have unveiled work-in-progress prototypes based on The Exorcist.
For the first time ever, collectors are getting Father Merrin as a high-end collectible. Just as exciting is a brand new statue of possessed Regan MacNeil, depicting her in her infamous bedroom during the height of her demonic possession. (Vomit not included.)
The companies describe the reveal as the “beginning of one of the most anticipated projects,” with both prototypes making their public debut at San Diego Comic-Con. They’re still works in progress, but they’re already shaping up to be must-have pieces for horror collectors.
These sculpts look phenomenal.
Sideshow Announces Regan Sixth Scale Figure
Not to be outdone, Sideshow has also announced its own collectible inspired by the film.
The company revealed that a Regan MacNeil Sixth Scale Figure is officially on the way. Details remain under wraps for now, with Sideshow encouraging fans to RSVP for updates ahead of the figure’s full reveal.
While it’s separate from the Infinite Statue project, it’s another welcome sign that The Exorcist is finally getting the premium collectibles treatment it has deserved for decades.
Between Infinite Statue’s ambitious statues and Sideshow’s sixth-scale figure, it looks like horror collectors are finally getting the kind of love The Exorcist has long been missing. For a film that continues to define cinematic horror more than five decades later, it’s about time.
