Pakistani singer Atif Aslam, who returned to Dhaka ahead of his concert, attended a press conference yesterday, where he spoke about his admiration for Bangladeshi music legend Runa Laila and expressed his hope for a future collaboration between Coke Studio Pakistan and Coke Studio Bangla.

Describing his bond with the country, Atif said Bangladesh feels like his second home, adding that he has always received immense love and affection from audiences here.

Recalling his experience of serving alongside Runa Laila as a judge on a music competition several years ago, Atif said, “We were both judges on the show. During one of the sessions, she sang “O Lal Meri”, which is a hugely popular song. She is an extraordinary artiste and a true legend. It was wonderful to work with her.”

The singer also said he would love to see Coke Studio Pakistan collaborate with Coke Studio Bangla, describing such a partnership as an exciting prospect for music in the region.

Atif is in Dhaka for the “Shah Cement Presents Main Stage Show Featuring Atif Aslam”, scheduled to take place today at Courtside, Madani Avenue. Bangladeshi bands Meghdol and Level Five will also perform at the concert.

Meanwhile, Atif is set to release his fourth studio album, “Subah Aye Na”, on July 31, marking his first full-length album in 18 years since “Meri Kahani” (2008).
