DARK HORSE TO LAUNCH ONGOING ‘DUNGEONS & DRAGONS’ COMIC SERIES
With Exclusive Essays, D&D Campaign Assets, in Each Issue

Dark Horse, which began publishing Dungeons & Dragons comics in 2025, has announced a new ongoing series by writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, penciller Ibraim Roberson, inker Arabson Oliveira, colorist Dan Brown, and letterer Haley-Rose Lyon. The series will be a high-fantasy epic starring Mad Mage Mordenkainen and spanning the Forgotten Realms, and each issue will have either an essay by a member of the RPG scene or a D&D campaign asset, which will be exclusive to the single issues. Dungeons & Dragons #1 will be released on November 4, 2026, with covers by Esad Ribić, D&D 5e Key Art Artist Tyler Jacobson, Antonio José Manzanedo (foil variant), Karen Darboe, and Mateus Manhanini, plus a 1:25 variant by Eric Canete. It will also have an essay by voice actor and Dimension 20 live play talent Erika Ishii.
“This book is the very definition of a passion project for us,” Kelly said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “We’ve been roleplaying together for as long as we’ve been a writing team, which is only slightly less than we’ve been friends. Playing D&D is how we started to fuse our individual storytelling instincts into the incredible blade of our partnership; if a table wants to tell imaginative, emotional stories, then it needs to work off of a core of collaboration, creativity and trust. It’s one of the reasons that we think D&D is one of the greatest games ever made. Yes, the mechanics and game design are tip-top – yes, its magic system is incredible and we will be using it to its ABSOLUTE FULLEST – but MOST IMPORTANTLY…D&D is a game that can never be ‘won’, but which can make you a better person through playing. Of course, player catharsis only comes from character pain…and sadly for our characters, we’re about to end the world.”
Dark Horse began its Dungeons & Dragons program in 2025 with the miniseries Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks(see “Dark Horse Announces First ‘D&D’ Comic”) and has published several miniseries since then, but the new Dungeons & Dragons is their first ongoing series featuring the franchise.
