What? Can it be?? Yes, sadly we can confirm that Amazing Arizona Comics, which Nerdvana has been honored to host from time to time, is ending with the upcoming Issue 57. This ending comes with a new beginning, as the amazing Amazing Arizona Comics creator Russ Kazmierczak Jr.leaves amazing Arizona for the American Midwest.
We’re not quite sure what form his creations will take in the nation’s breadbasket, but they’re sure to be amazing!
I can attest that Russ is also an amazing person I’m proud to call a friend. Did you know that this upcoming issue is inked by a 10-year-old artist he’s been mentoring?Star Trek isn’t the only next generation he’s a fan of.
We asked Russ, who has long been kind enough to opine and geek out with us on this little site from time to time (when he’s not been too busycamping out in comic book store windows to create for 24 hours straight), to share some thoughts with Nerdvana readers as he embarks on his next exciting adventure:
“In 2010, when I moved back to Phoenix from California, I wanted to self-publish a superhero comic book that took place in my own backyard. Arizona is an amazing state, rich in weirdness and wonder, and it has inspired me to create some crazy characters that I’ll love forever.
“Now that I’m moving to the Midwest, some of those characters are coming with me — but not before one last adventure in the heart of downtown Phoenix.Amazing Arizona Comics #57concludes my long-running minicomic, and a fourth-wall- breaking story that began in issue #53, when Speed Cameron met ME. Once and for all, issue #57 answers the question: When the created meets their creator, will they part as friends, or enemies?
“Self-publishing comics has introduced me to some of the coolest people I’ve ever met, and some of my most meaningful friendships began because I decided to create Amazing Arizona Comics. I cannot thank my family, friends, and fans enough for making this such a meaningful chapter in my life — and, I can assure you, the best is yet to come. Stay tuned for the comics I’ll be making NEXT!”
