It’s hard to identify the shift unless you’ve read a lot of comics—and especially comics from more than about 10 years ago. After all, Superman is still faster than a speeding bullet. Spider-Man still does whatever a spider can. Absolutely nothing good happens to the X-Men.

While it’s earned plenty of praise in its release week, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” got a particularly energizing stamp of approval from comics legend Frank Miller on Thursday, who after attending the world premiere heralded star Tom Holland as his favorite Spider-Man ever and “Brand New Day” as a “dream come true” for fans.

Frank Castle does not miss.
