Inspired by the iconic Mattel toys, Matchbox: The Movie is an action-packed, globetrotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have their lives upended when undercover CIA agent Sean (John Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town and unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit to save the world. Alongside Cena, the film stars Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Arturo Castro, Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Danai Gurira and Golshifteh Faranhani. Matchbox: The Movie premieres on Apple TV Oct. 9. Confirmed panelists include John Cena, Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson and Teyonah Parris.
In Emmy nominee “Widow’s Bay,” something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again. The cast also includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, K Callan and Jeff Hiller. Season one of “Widow’s Bay” is available to watch now on Apple TV. Panelists will be announced.
Based on the sci-fi novel of the same name celebrating its 10th anniversary, “Dark Matter” is a story about the road not taken. In season one, the series followed Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. Season two picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s (Jennifer Connelly) growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, threatening to tear their fragile stability apart. Elsewhere, Amanda (Alice Braga) and Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. With Blair (Amanda Brugel) determined to stop him, while Leighton (Dayo Okeniyi) relentlessly chases his grand vision of creating a perfect world. Season two will launch Friday, Aug. 28, with episodes bowing weekly through Oct. 30. Confirmed panelists include Blake Crouch, Matt Tolmach, Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry, Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly and Dayo Okeniyi.
Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh team up in Mayday, a genre-bending, action-packed buddy comedy that flips the spy thriller on its head. When hotshot U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly (Reynolds) is sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory at the height of the Cold War, the operation implodes, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines. Discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff ex-KGB agent with a penchant for American culture, Troy thinks he’s toast — but could an unlikely alliance between the two lead to Troy’s rescue and a bond neither saw coming? Alongside Reynolds and Branagh, the ensemble cast includes Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, David Morse and more. Mayday premieres on Apple TV Sept. 4. Confirmed panelists include directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
Based on Hugh Howey’s best-selling trilogy, season three of “Silo” reveals an origin story set centuries earlier, while continuing the saga of a dystopian society of 10,000 people living underground under mysterious circumstances. In the present, Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) survives her forced “cleaning” but returns with memory loss as the silo recovers from rebellion and faces a dangerous new threat. Meanwhile, in the “Before Times,” journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) uncover a conspiracy that pulls them into a chain of events with catastrophic, irreversible consequences. The ensemble cast includes Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Rick Gomez, Billy Postlethwaite, and Clare Perkins. Joining the cast for season three alongside Zukerman and Henwick, are Laura Innes, Jessica Brown Findlay, Morven Christie, Reed Birney, and Matt Craven, with Colin Hanks set to recur, and Steve Zahn also set to return. Season three of “Silo” runs through Friday, Sept. 4. Confirmed panelists include Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Ashley Zukerman, Jessica Henwick, Alexandria Riley and executive producer Graham Yost.
In addition to the Hall H panel, fans will also be able to attend a special sneak preview screening of the first episode of the new season of “Dark Matter,” and take an immersive step into the underground world of “Silo” in a multi-sensory installation that will transport visitors into the silo itself to experience the tension, intrigue, and atmosphere that has captivated audiences worldwide.
The “Dark Matter” preview takes place from 10 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 24, in room 6DE of the convention center. Participating guests include star and executive producer Joel Edgerton; cast member Dayo Okeniyi; author of the novel, creator, and executive producer Blake Crouch; writer and executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry; and executive producer Matt Tolmach.
