Will Ferrell‘s hilarious sports comedy TV series premieres on Netflix today, July 16, 2026. Also starring Molly Shannon, the show is set within the world of professional Golf. It marks a major milestone in Ferrell’s career as he takes the lead role in his first scripted television comedy.

Will Ferrell’s TV comeback starts streaming on Netflix today

The Hawk officially begins streaming on Netflix today, Thursday. The 10-episode series features Will Ferrell as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, who reached the world No.1 golf ranking in 2004 and now hopes to revive his career.

Netflix describes the show as a sports comedy that follows Lonnie through the hardships of life on and off the golf course. Rather than focusing solely on sports, it explores the challenges of chasing another shot at success while balancing family relationships and life beyond the spotlight. It mixes heartfelt moments with the kind of absurd comedy that has defined much of Ferrell’s career.

Ferrell takes the lead in the series alongside Molly Shannon as Stacy. The supporting cast includes Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, Gabriel Hogan, Luke Wilson, and Aida Osman.

Behind the scenes, Ferrell co-created The Hawk with longtime collaborators Harper Steele and Chris Henchy. Jonathan Watson directed it, while Gloria Sanchez Productions and T-Street developed the project for Netflix. The creative team has worked on several popular comedy projects over the years, making this reunion one of the show’s biggest highlights.

The series went through several changes before arriving on Netflix. The streamer first announced the project in 2023 as an untitled golf comedy before giving it the working title Golf. Ramy Youssef originally co-created it with Josh Rabinowitz, but both left the project in 2024 over creative differences. Molly Shannon joined the cast during the next stage of development, followed by other members in the current cast. Netflix renamed the series The Hawk in March 2026 ahead of its premiere.

All 10 episodes of The Hawk Season 1, each with a runtime between 28 and 37 minutes, are now streaming on Netflix.
