Disney has signed a content distribution deal with Netflix that will migrate <a href="https://comicvibe.com/best-prime-day-apple-watch-deals-2026-get-up-to-50-off-select-models/” title=”Best Prime Day Apple Watch deals 2026: Get up to $50 off select models”>select Disney+ Originals, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios movies to more than 325 million Netflix subscribers worldwide.
In doing so, Disney is marketing its new content by releasing catalog programming, including “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” (Seasons 1 and 2), ahead of the Nov. 20 debut of season three on Disney+; and all five Ice Age movies (ahead of the Feb. 5, 2027, theatrical release of Ice Age: Boiling Point), among other content, on Netflix.
Additional movies Soul, Raya and the Last DragonandElio will begin streaming on Netflix globally starting in early 2027. Disney-owned television series going to Netflix include “Will Trent,” “Tracker,” “Shifting Gears,” “Fresh Off the Boat” and “Revenge.”
Third party content licensed to Netflix often experiences the so-called “Netflix Effect,” which Nielsen coined to describes the viral resurgence in viewership and cultural relevance in catalog content.
Other studios, including NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery, use this effect strategically, licensing content to Netflix for incremental revenue and to build hype before launching a sequel or new season on their own platforms.
Recent examples include the former USA Network legal drama “Suits,” which generated more than 400 million global views on the streamer.
While there is no official tally for every single third-party title that has experienced a “Netflix renaissance,” industry metrics suggest that licensed programming makes up about 40% of Netflix’s TV shows available worldwide — and helps drive 50% of new Netflix signups.
On the flipside, sometimes when a movie or series is licensed to Netflix, its digital sales across Prime Video and other retail platforms can reportedly fall upwards of 50%, according to data from ScienceDirect.com.
