Roblox (RBLX) stock rose 12.7% in Monday’s session. Two things drew the coverage: a developer conference the Friday before, and a price target raise that came with a neutral rating. The problem management named in July was bookings per hour of play.
Roblox Wants Its Games Played Outside Its Own App
At the conference the company said it plans to let creators distribute their games as standalone apps across mobile, PC and consoles. Roblox games have lived inside the Roblox app. Under the plan they will be able to sit anywhere else, the web included.
The creation side got its own announcements. Roblox Build is designed to let people make a game from the mobile app by describing what they want, and the company is adding a Roblox Card and Roblox Wallet for creators. Management’s argument is that AI tools produce more game makers rather than fewer. The market treated all of this as Roblox’s alone: over the same window Unity (U) fell 1.2% and Take-Two (TTWO) rose 3.5%, neither near Roblox’s move.
But Management Guided Bookings Lower Back In July
In July the company guided Q3 2026 bookings to a year-over-year decline of 14% to 18%, and declined to give revised full-year guidance at this time. Players kept showing up: daily actives reached 123 million in Q2 2026, up 10% year over year. What each of their hours earned came in below management’s own forecast.
The cause is specific. Last year’s hours were concentrated in a small set of viral hits that appealed to younger players and monetized unusually well, and those hours have moved to newer and evergreen games that earn less. Roblox also retuned its discovery algorithm to reward long-term retention, which surfaces those stickier games more often.
Management says its own testing suggests the retention gain will more than offset the short-term monetization hit. The company will not name a date. That is the trade you are being asked to fund.
So Do You Believe The Conference Or The Guidance?
Price is where the two meet. Roblox closed Monday at $51.29. That is above the $48 target Wedbush had just raised, and the analyst behind that raise still does not recommend the shares. The market values the company at about $37 billion on $5.69 billion of revenue over the past twelve months.
You are paying for adoption that has not happened yet. Standalone apps, Roblox Build and the Roblox Wallet all have to pull in players and creators before any of them shows up in bookings. The shares are still far below their 52-week high of $141.56, so the market has already marked this business down once.
Watch the Q3 2026 bookings print against that guided decline. Until it lands, the conference is a promise and the guide is a number.
