“American Idol” will move production to Georgia in a major shakeup after more than two decades in Southern California.
Production and distribution company Fremantle confirmed the move in a statement to NBCLA. More details about the relocation plan for the upcoming 25th season were not immediately available.

Deadline reported that the company, which produces the show with 19 Entertainment, is in talks with a studio complex in the Atlanta area.
Georgia offers a 20% Film Tax Credit and an additional 10% “uplift” credit for providing promotional value to the state. Productions qualify by spending at least $500,000 in a tax year.
The state is among the top U.S. film and TV production locations outside California and New York.
California also offers a raft of financial incentives, including tax credits through Version 4.0 of the California Film & TV Tax Credit Program. The state’s film and TV tax credit was expanded last year with passage of Assembly Bill 11138, which introduced new credits for some unscripted productions that meet minimum budget production requirements.
Auditions for the new “American Idol” season started last month and continue through the end of September. Season 25 will premiere next year.

“American Idol” launched in 2002 on Fox and moved to ABC in 2018. Its most recent season was shot at Red Studios in Hollywood.
Ryan Seacrest is the show’s long-time host. Last season’s celebrity judges were Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood.
The shift for “American Idol” comes after news that Fox’s “The Masked Singer” was moving from the lot on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles to New Jersey.
