President Donald Trump, an older white man with light hair, wears a blue suit jacket and multicolored tie while speaking into a microphone.
    • Major television networks are not currently scheduled to air U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech on July 16, 2026.
    • The claim that major television networks are refusing to air the speech is based on speculation and has not been confirmed.
    • The White House announced that Trump’s speech will be available to view on the White House’s official social media accounts, YouTube channel, website, and C-SPAN.
    • The claim that major television networks are refusing to air U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech to the nation on July 16 remains under investigation.

    • On July 13, 2026, the White House announced that Trump would deliver a speech to the nation at 9 p.m. EST on July 16. Rumors that major television networks refused to air the speech circulated online soon after.

    • As of this writing, listings for all of the television stations mentioned in the claim show their regularly scheduled programming and make no mention of the president’s speech. However, the claims that the networks are actively “refusing” to air the address, or that the White House didn’t offer it to them, are pure speculation.

    • Snopes reached out to the White House and all of the networks in question, and will update this article if we receive responses.

In mid-July 2026, a rumor circulated online that major television networks were refusing to air a July 16 speech by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The claim emerged after the White House announced on social media that Trump would give a speech at 9 p.m. EST on July 16 without providing further details.Trump was reportedly set to speak about “protecting the integrity of our elections,” according to Axios‘ reporting of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s statement on the matter.

Social media posts claimed that ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox News were among the TV networks “refusing” to air the president’s speech on primetime TV.

One Facebook post circulating the rumor along with an image that included the TV networks’ logos read, “ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC have all stayed silent on whether they’ll carry the speech, ignoring repeated press inquiries. Even more embarrassing for the White House, network schedules for Thursday at 9 p.m. still show regularly scheduled programming in Trump’s slot. It’s not even clear the White House has formally asked the networks to preempt their shows at all.”

Listings for all of the TV stations mentioned in the claim — ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox and MS NOW (listed in the claim under its old nomenclature, MSNBC) — show regularly scheduled programming on their TV listings for July 16, 2026, as of this writing. They do not mention airing the president’s address.

However, claims that the networks are actively “refusing” to air the address, or that the White House didn’t offer it to them, are pure speculation. Therefore, we have left this claim unrated until we receive direct confirmation from either the Trump administration or the networks.

The posts’ claim that “not one major network agreed to air” Trump’s address was also unsubstantiated at the time of publication.

Snopes reached out to the networks named in the posts, as well as the White House press office, and will update this article if we receive responses.

The White House announced the address on social media on July 13, 2026, and said the speech would be available to view on the White House’s official social media accounts, YouTube channel and its website.

C-SPAN will also host a livestream of the speech.

CNN reported on the White House’s announcement of the address but made no mention of whether the network would air it.
