TIFFCOM 2026 expands conference lineup with AGBO keynote, anime industry insights and new IP opportunities

TIFFCOM 2026, the content market affiliated with the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), has announced a new series of conferences and industry sessions for its upcoming 23rd edition, taking place October 28–30 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-Kan in Tokyo.
Among the highlights will be a keynote featuring AGBO Partner, Chris Breartonand Chief Scientific Officer Dominic Hughes, who will discuss the intersection of technology, artificial intelligence and storytelling. The session, titled “Technology and Storytelling,” will take place on October 29 and will examine how emerging technologies can serve as creative partners while remaining guided by artists.
The executives will explore AGBO’sapproach to innovation and the role of AI, machine learning and other technologies in the creative process, as well as their potential impact on film, television, gaming and interactive entertainment.
The conference program will also feature the latest edition of the Anime Industry Report, presented by the Association of Japanese Animations, with new data on the domestic and overseas anime market. Representatives from Nippon Animation and ProductionI.G will discuss their international expansion strategies.
According to the organizers, Japan’s content industry generated ¥6.1 trillion in overseas sales in 2024, with anime accounting for approximately one-third of those exports. The session will present preliminary domestic and international market figures from the 2025 industry survey and examine opportunities for further global expansion.
International co-production will also be addressed through the conference “Anime’s New Frontier: Structuring & Financing International Co-Productions,” which will bring together producers from Japan and overseas to discuss financing models, deal structures, rights management and strategies for taking projects into international markets.
The program will additionally include showcases from Linmon Pictures and Taiwan’s drama industry, as well as a special session organized by the Broadcast Program Export Association of Japan (BEAJ), focusing on Japanese IP and its expansion beyond traditional broadcasting. Six Japanese companies will present examples ranging from experiential IP and VR to variety formats and content libraries aimed at international markets.
The Tokyo IP Markethas also expanded its lineup, with digital comics publisher Comisma and Takaratomy, owner of IP including Beyblade, joining as first-time participants. Their addition brings the total number of participating IP holders to 10, alongside companies including Kadokawa, Nippon Animation, Shochiku, Square Enix and Toei.
TIFFCOM 2026 will bring together international rights holders, buyers, producers and industry executives for three days of conferences, project and IP markets, pitching and networking, with a focus on international co-production and content business.
