Cozy games usually sell a promise of low stakes: a shop to run, a town to befriend, nothing that bites. The Witch’s Bakery, the debut from the French indie team Sunny Lab, has always been more interesting than that promise. Its heroine, the young witch Lunne, runs a bakery in Paris, but her real trade is noticing the feelings people keep hidden and treating them with bread. Now the game is heading to a place cozy games rarely aim for, the phone of the anime fan, through a deal with Crunchyroll.
In the announcement, Sunny Lab and its publisher, Silver Lining Interactive, confirm that the game will come to iOS and Android exclusively through Crunchyroll Game Vault, the catalogue of games the anime streaming service bundles with its paid memberships. It is a fitting home. Since its first reveal, the game has drawn comparisons with Studio Ghibli and Kiki’s Delivery Service in particular: hand-drawn characters, a heroine under an oversized red hat, a city drawn as somewhere to wander rather than to conquer. Crunchyroll’s audience already speaks that visual language.

The new trailer, released to mark the partnership, is less interested in croissants than in what happens after hours. Lunne spends her days behind the counter and on the hand-drawn streets of Paris, but the later chapters move inward. Using her powers, she can enter Heart Palaces, hidden realms where a person’s emotions take physical shape, and the studio teases mazes, inner turmoil and, at the far end, enormous emotional kaiju. That is the design idea worth following: a bakery game whose dungeons are built from its customers’ repressed feelings, so that every friendship made at the counter carries the possibility of a descent.
There is a structural honesty to it. Earlier previews described a day split into phases, the shop by daylight, the city and its people in the evening, rest and magic at night, with a special ingredient baked into the bread as the key that opens a troubled heart. The kaiju are the logical end of that premise: a feeling buried long enough stops being a mood and becomes a monster.

The Witch’s Bakery is Sunny Lab’s first title. The studio funded it through a Kickstarter campaign in 2024 that raced far past its €70,000 goal, and Silver Lining Interactive, a publishing house based in Macclesfield, in the North of England, describes its model as publishing built on partnership.
The digital launch is set for October 14, 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Boxed editions for PS5 and Nintendo platforms follow on October 16, with a digital cookbook included. The mobile version has no date yet; when it arrives, it will be available to Crunchyroll Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan members with no ads and no in-app purchases.
