The actor-comedian reveals why he’s such a big X-Filesand Star Trek fan.
The Funny AF (Netflix) and Deli Boys(Hulu) actor-comedian, whose stand-up special Night Thoughtsdropped on Hulu in December, shares the shows that help define him.
The show that was formative for me as a teen: Star Trek
I found it to be fascinating and so philosophical. I was a philosophy major in college, I think because of Star Trek. It’s not about going to crazy new worlds, although that’s a fun part of it. It’s all about gray areas and moral quandaries.
The show that was must-watch weekly viewing for me: The Pitt
It’s simultaneously harrowing and comforting. It’s gory and intense, but it’s also competence porn. Watching people be really good at a job is satisfying to watch. I also like that the characters all have different perspectives on the right thing to do in a specific situation. The show doesn’t really take sides.
The show I can watch over and over again:The X-Files
I’ve seen certain episodes 15, 20 times. It’s probably the most hours I’ve spent watching a TV show.
The show I love that may surprise people: My So-Called Life
I watched it in its entirety and fell in love with it. I wouldn’t think a show about a teenage girl in high school could make me cry every single episode, but it did. It perfectly captured the drama of being a teenager and made me miss feeling things that intensely.
