Fresh off its successful Emmy run where is nabbed an award for best reality competition program, “The Traitors” is returning with an “all-new civilian version.”
In this inaugural iteration of “The Traitors,” Emmy-winning host Alan Cumming will open the doors of his “now infamous castle in the Scottish Highlands to everyday Americans.”
“From among them he will choose who will play as Traitors and who must survive as Faithful,” NBC says in a news release, adding the new season is not Season 5, but is “both a throwback to Season 1 of The Traitors and a spinoff series that has its own twists.” The first season of show featured an equal mix of celebrity players and everyday people competing.
“The Traitors” follows a group of contestants secretly split into two groups − Traitors and Faithful − who “work together on a series of exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000.”
The Faithful must determine who the Traitors are and banish them from the game to win the grand prize. If the Faithful don’t sniff out the Traitors, the latter can take all the money for themselves at the end of the show − a situation Maura Higgins found herself in during the Season 4 finale.
NBC describes the show as “a nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are the name of the game.”
