A 2002 Classic Chronicle segment follows Massachusetts collectors and resellers who explain how research, timing and a sharp eye can turn yard sale finds into valuable collectibles

Yard sale bargains become opportunities for collectors and resellers in this Classic Chronicle segment from 2002, as the program visits Wex Rex Collectibles in Framingham and follows Massachusetts shoppers searching for hidden value. The report says owner Gary Summers built a reputation for spotting pop <a href="https://comicvibe.com/a-new-television-critic-joins-culture/” title=”A New Television Critic Joins Culture”>culture memorabilia and collectibles, while other buyers use research and online auctions to reach collectors.

Summers tells Classic Chronicle, “A $5 item I can sell for 50, a $50 item I can sell for 100. This is my job. I do this for a living.” Later in the 2002 segment, he offers advice to collectors: “If you have something of value, do the research. If you do the research yourself, you get to make the money.”

Some items produced modest returns while others far exceeded expectations, including a robin figurine bought for $2.50 that ultimately sold for $139. The segment closes with another memorable example as the hosts report the Steiners purchased a World War I camouflage helmet for $15 and later sold it through an internet auction for more than $700, while inviting viewers to watch the rest of the 2002 Classic Chronicle story.
