PlayStationhas been on the receiving end of fans’ anger ever since it announced the end of the physical format for its games. But according to a report, the company might consider reverse its decision, depending on the results of a survey that has reportedly been sent to developers.
During the recent Broken Silicon Podcast, Tom from Moore’s Law is Dead channel stated that he has been told that some Sony development studios have received a lengthy survey asking about the sales of physical games.
“There is a survey Sony sent out to developers that is, what I was told by my contacts, a bigger survey than they’ve sent almost ever before, if not ever before. And there was a question in it basically trying to ask in a not-direct way, ‘Is there an issue with how we sell games physically?’ or something, like asking developers for feedback on killing discs,” mentioned Tom. “Wolverineis still selling plenty of physical copies, and you’ve also got Sony starting to ask devs if they are worried about killing physical [discs], suggesting they realize that if they got a bunch of feedback, maybe they would consider some sort of mea culpa on it. We’ll see.”
A U-turn to reconsider the physical market
Also, as this comes a month after gamescom, where it was reported that some developers and publishers were upset by the way Sony made this highly controversial decision. And although it was mentioned a few weeks ago that all the community’s efforts to protest the use of PlayStation services “didn’t make a dent,” perhaps the stance of game developers could change the decision
For now, we’ll have to take this with a grain of salt and act surprised if there are any changes to PlayStation’s recent decisions.
