Influential Swedish metal extremists Meshuggah have announced a new collaboration with the Transformers property. That unlikely union between the band and the long-running toy, cartoon, film, etc. franchise has been announced as part of the ongoing 40th anniversary festivities centered around the animated 1986 feature film, ‘The Transformers: The Movie‘. That milestone has also resulted in a metal/hard rock version of the film’s soundtrack being lined up for a release this Friday, July 24th.
This new shirt, which riffs nf Meshuggah‘s 1995 sophomore album “Destroy Erase Improve“, will be available at the Reigning Phoenix Music/Stern Pinball booth, #4029 at this week’s ‘San Diego Comic-Con‘. Meshuggah‘s drummer Tomas Haake and guitarist Mårten Hagström will both be on hand at the booth this Friday, July 24th, at 03:30pm, to partake in a signing event for fans.
Ken Christiansen, an artist noted for his work with ‘Transformers‘ and ‘G.I. Joe‘, oversaw this crossover, commenting: “Two of my favorite things are ‘Transformers‘ and metal music, when the chance came up to combine the two, how could I pass that up? And to do it for a killer band like Meshuggah, can’t get much better.”
Hagström added, “Big machinery. Massive destruction. Reconfiguration. A pretty accurate analogy to our sound, is it not?” This past April saw a newly remastered 30th pressing of “Destroy Erase Improve” and a newly remastered 20th anniversary pressing of Meshuggah‘s fifth album “Catch Thirtythree” issued in conjunction with Record Store Day. Both of those sonically overhauled records will now be arriving digitally this Friday, July 24th, alongside CD and additional vinyl pressings.
On top of that, a new splatter vinyl pressing of each of those records will be available exclusively at the aforementioned booth this weekend.
