Marvel’s latest project to close out a beloved trilogy arrives on Disney+ well before Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming eight-episode series brings back a fan-favorite villain last seen over a decade ago and reveals what has been hiding inside one Avenger’s mind all along.
VisionQuest is set to hit Disney+ in less than a month
Marvel Television’s VisionQuest debuts on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. The eight-episode miniseries concludes the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. Terry Matalas created the series and serves as showrunner.
Paul Bettany reprises his role as the android Vision in the upcoming series. James Spader returns as Ultron alongside Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, and T’Nia Miller. The cast also includes Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire, and James D’Arcy as various AI personas.
The series follows Vision as he struggles to reconnect with his restored memories. He lacks any emotional attachment to them despite regaining them at the end of WandaVision. Matalas called Vision a “blank slate” in an interview with ComicBook.com. Vision retreats into his mind at night to communicate with AI personas embedded in his programming. Each persona assumes a human avatar and helps Vision understand different human qualities.
Spader’s Ultron exists inside Vision’s mind after his apparent destruction in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Bettany told Collider that Vision has “been saving and copying and pasting them to keep them alive.” He added that Ultron “has to be kept behind a pretty impressive firewall because he’s a psychopath.” Spader described their dynamic as a “sort of father-son-therapist-psychopath” relationship to Rotten Tomatoes.
The series explores intergenerational trauma between fathers and sons. Executive producer Brad Winderbaum said VisionQuest centers on three generations. Bettany said that the show tackles “denial of pain, and denial of your own truth” . Matalas revealed that each episode feels like a different kind of film
The first two episodes will screen at the 2026 BFI London Film Festival on October 12.
