Brad Winderbaum made a surprising superhero confession during a recent podcast appearance that left Marvel fans stunned. The Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios picked an unexpected favorite when asked whether Spider-Man ranks as the greatest superhero of all time, choosing a cape-wearing DC vigilante over one of Marvel’s most beloved web-slingers.Brad Winderbaum doesn’t agree with Spider-Man being the best superhero

Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, disagrees that Spider-Man ranks as the best superhero ever

During his appearance on The Escape Pod Podcast, Winderbaum chose Batman over Spider-Man when the hosts posed the question. The Marvel executive openly admitted his preference for a DC Comics character during the conversation

Winderbaum acknowledged Spider-Man’s standing but firmly placed Batman above the web-slinger in his personal ranking. He stated, “He’s the goat. Spider-Man is a close second.” The executive highlighted that both characters share impressive villain rosters as a common strength

Winderbaum pointed to Batman’s humanity as a key factor in his preference for the Dark Knight. He explained, “Batman is a human being, so has like the aspirational edge a little bit.” The Marvel executive emphasized that Batman’s lack of superpowers gives the character a unique appeal

The executive also revealed specific storytelling elements that draw him to Batman over other superheroes. He said, “My favorite Batman stories are the ones where the villain takes center stage.” Winderbaum described Batman as “the existential threat to their journey,” calling it “a cool story mechanic.”

Winderbaum also expressed his enthusiasm for DC’s current Absolute Batman comic series during the podcast discussion. He shared, “I just read the first six issues on the play. It was so good.” The executive praised the comic’s approach of “reframing him as kind of a working-class hero, making the bad guy, the billionaire.” Winderbaum called the series’ take on Alfred “so great” and “so interesting.”

The Marvel television head’s willingness to champion a rival company’s character surprised the podcast hosts during the segment
