Saber Interactive’s Unreal Engine 5 horror game Hellraiser: Revival will not be censored on any platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2.
Releasing next month on October 8th, Hellraiser: Revival has been pushed as an extreme video game return to Clive Barker’s iconic series. The upcoming horror game will feature all of the same adult themes, visceral violence, and sexual content as the cult-classic film franchise.
Despite the extreme content, Saber’s horror game has managed to get through ratings boards without cuts. Speaking earlier this year, Saber CCO Tim Willits said: “I can say that we have our ESRB rating, which was great, and we had to take nothing out for that,” Willits said.
With the game’s Nintendo Switch 2 port, there has been some worry that the game will still be censored on the handheld. While fans have noticed some small cases of censorship in the PC demo version, the game’s release on the handheld will be exactly the same as Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
In a statement given to FRVR, a spokesperson for Saber confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be identical to other platforms. “Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival will contain the same content across all platforms. The gameplay is meant to push boundaries and will not be censored in any way, including the Nintendo Switch 2 version.”
The censorship worries for Nintendo Switch 2 users are not unfounded by fans of the handheld. In fact, earlier this year, episodic adventure game Dispatch released in a censored state on the platform with lewd content and even certain gestures removed in the ports to abide by Nintendo’s content policies.
Since the controversy, developer AdHoc has released the “HR Violations” update for the Switch versions of the game, bringing back the cut content to fans. However, it’s not clear if Nintendo’s internal policies have changed to be more lenient towards this style of content.
Nevertheless, as it pertains to Hellraiser: Revival, there is no censorship coming specifically for the console versions of the game, or entirely just for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the horror game. While the game will likely have some asset changes for performance reasons, the content of the game will be identical.
