In 2020, Call of Duty Warzone hit the market and changed the face of battle royale games forever. It emerged at a strained time in the world, with the COVID-19 pandemic laying waste to the human population and forcing everyone indoors for weeks at a time. That allowed Warzone to quickly become one of the most popular Call of Duty experiences ever made.
It was free, available on multiple platforms, and felt novel and exciting. For many millions of players, it was a saviorin those dark times. This week, Call of Duty Warzone will shut down for good on two ‘historic’ platforms that once supported a large chunkof that player base.
Warzone PS4 and XBOX One Shutdown Imminent
This week, on November 6, the Call of Duty Warzone servers on PlayStation 4 and XBOX One will shut down forever.
Earlier this year, in June, new downloads and re-installations of Warzone on PS4 and XBOX One were halted, and then in lateJune, digital store purchases were locked down. This all followed the earlier shutdown of Call of Duty Warzone Mobile, which happened in April 2026.
The wider Warzone platform will still be available beyond this week, but for these legacy platforms, it’s sayonara.
The final full dayyou can play Warzone on PlayStation 4 and XBOX One will be November 5th, one day before the launch of Modern Warfare 4’s Season One update. On November 6th, the servers will be taken offline, and the popular battle royale title will turn its back on the last generation for good.
In social circles, a mixed response was garnered when the news dropped this year that the shutdown would be happening. For some, it was a case of not realizing Warzone was still availableon old-gen platforms. For others, it marked a sad day, given that they’re yet to move on to the current generation of consoles.
