Disney has revealed the first details about ‘Frozen 3’. The film will hit theaters on November 24, 2027. That date keeps the franchise’s tradition of Thanksgiving releases going.
Anna and Kristoff will get married in the film. Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, confirmed this on stage at Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim. She said the wedding has been a long time coming. Elsa will stand by her sister’s side for the ceremony.
The footage shown at D23 picks up on the wedding night. Elsa is later seen on a dock, studying a mysterious stone. That stone opens a portal into a new, snow-covered dimension.
A new villain
The wedding celebration does not go smoothly. A mysterious new female villain crashes the event. This sets up the next adventure for Anna and Elsa. Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, described the new realm as wilder and more dangerous than anything Elsa has created before.
Olaf finds love
Olaf is getting a love interest. Her name is Samantha. Josh Gad, who voices Olaf, performed a new song at D23 called ‘Ooooh, Samantha.’ The song points to a romantic storyline for the snowman.
The returning cast
The voice cast remains the same. Kristen Bell returns as Anna. Idina Menzel returns as Elsa. Jonathan Groff returns as Kristoff. Josh Gad returns as Olaf. Sven also returns.
Bell and Menzel opened the D23 presentation with a reworked version of ‘Frozen Heart,’ the song that opened the original 2013 film.
Behind the scenes
Jennifer Lee returns to write the script. She is co-directing the film alongside Trent Correy. Lee has been part of the franchise since its first installment.
Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez will compose the music. They wrote songs for the first two films as well.
Bell told Variety in October 2025 that production was getting underway. At that point, she had not yet heard any of the film’s music. She also denied reports that she would earn $60 million to reprise her role, though she did not say how much she is being paid.
A fourth film is coming too
Former Disney CEO Bob Iger had already confirmed a fourth Frozen film is in development. Jennifer Lee said the story had grown complex enough that it needed two films to resolve questions left open at the end of Frozen 2. No further details on the fourth film have been released.
Franchise numbers
The first Frozen film came out in 2013. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee co-directed it. It drew inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Snow Queen.’ That film earned $1.3 billion worldwide and won two Oscars, including Best Animated Feature.
Frozen 2 followed in 2019, also directed by Buck and Lee. It brought in $1.45 billion. Together, the first two films have grossed about $2.76 billion worldwide.
Frozen 3 will be the franchise’s first new theatrical film in eight years.
