Fortnite ranks, in order, are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal. Every rank below Unreal is split into three divisions, numbered I, II, and III, which gives the ladder 22 steps in total. Division I is the lowest in each rank, so Bronze I sits at the bottom, while Unreal is at the top.
This list last changed in 2026, as Epic Games reworked the Fortnite Ranked system during Chapter 7. Elite and Champion were single ranks until April 2026, which gave each of them three divisions. Battle Royale and Zero Build now share one rank, and a new Unreal Legends is the highest competitive rank in Fortnite, sitting above Unreal.
All Fortnite ranks in order
The table below lists all Fortnite ranks in order from lowest to highest, with the divisions <a href="https://comicvibe.com/official-first-look-inside-midnight-x-men-2/” title=”Official First Look Inside Midnight X-Men #2″>inside each rank and the step that follows it.
| Order | Rank | Divisions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bronze | Bronze I, Bronze II, Bronze III |
| 2 | Silver | Silver I, Silver II, Silver III |
| 3 | Gold | Gold I, Gold II, Gold III |
| 4 | Platinum | Platinum I, Platinum II, Platinum III |
| 5 | Diamond | Diamond I, Diamond II, Diamond III |
| 6 | Elite | Elite I, Elite II, Elite III |
| 7 | Champion | Champion I, Champion II, Champion III |
| 8 | Unreal | None, players get a leaderboard position |
That makes eight ranks and 22 steps from Bronze I to Unreal. The ladder had 18 steps before April 2026, when Elite and Champion had no divisions. The climb from Diamond III to Unreal now takes seven promotions instead of three, which makes the final stretch a much longer grind. However, this also means that the Unreal club is much more exclusive than before.
Is Bronze I or Bronze III higher in Fortnite?
Bronze III is higher. Fortnite divisions count upward in every rank, so you enter at Division I, move to II, then III, and the next promotion takes you to Division I of the following rank. Bronze I, also written as Bronze 1, is the lowest spot on the ladder, while Champion III is the last stop before Unreal.
How the Fortnite Ranked system works
Ranked arrived in May 2023, nearly six years after Fortnite came out in 2017, and it replaced the Arena mode. The system evaluates your performance, assigns you a rank, and fills your matches with players of a similar rank.
Ranked is switched on from the regular playlists. Pick Battle Royale, Zero Build, or Reload from Discover, turn Ranked on in the Mode Selection menu above the Play button, and choose your queue. Brand-new accounts have one extra step, as they need to complete the Outlast 500 players quest in the Kickstart quests before the option appears.

Which Fortnite modes have the Ranked system?
| Mode | How progress works |
|---|---|
| Battle Royale and Zero Build | One shared rank since Chapter 7 Season 2 |
| Reload and Reload Zero Build | One shared Reload rank since April 2026 |
| Fortnite Arenas | Ranked build-only boxfights in 1v1 and 2v2 rounds |
Battle Royale and Zero Build had separate ranks until March 2026. Epic merged them at the start of Chapter 7 Season 2 and did the same for Reload a month later. One shared rank is the better setup, as players who switch between building and Zero Build no longer have to climb twice.
Several older Ranked playlists are gone. Epic disabled Fortnite OG Ranked at the end of Chapter 6 Season 3 in June 2025 and removed Ballistic from the game on April 16, 2026. Rocket Racing stopped handing out Ranked rewards in spring 2026, and the mode itself left Fortnite in October 2026.
How to rank up in Fortnite
Epic Games does not publish point values for Ranked, but its Ranked guide lists what the system looks at in Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Reload. It also says late-game performance carries significantly more weight than anything you do early in a match.
| Factor | How it affects rankings |
|---|---|
| Placement | A Victory Royale gives the biggest boost, and the gaps grow near the top. Moving from second to first is worth more than moving from 50th to 45th |
| Storm circle reached | This often matters more than the exact placement. Reaching Storm circle eight in fifth place typically beats reaching Storm circle five in second |
| Eliminations | Late eliminations are worth more. One with 20 players left pays considerably more than one with 80 left |
| Opponent skill | Eliminating a higher-ranked player earns more. A Gold player gets more for a Diamond elimination than for a Bronze one |
| Damage | Damage dealt versus damage taken is on Epic’s list, with no further detail |
| Consistency | Steady results earn consistency bonuses, while frequent early eliminations are penalized |

According to this, a quiet game that reaches the final circles will usually move your rank more than a hot drop with a couple of early eliminations, so the most reliable way to climb is to pick fights you can win and stay alive for the endgame. Just like in cups, survival is the most important factor to ranking up in Fortnite.
Since Chapter 7 Season 3, the post-match screen also shows how your eliminations and placement affected your rank.
What the percentage next to your rank means
The percentage next to your rank shows your progress toward the next division. Epic’s support page says it rises with your placement and eliminations, so finishing higher and eliminating more players earns more progress. Reach 100%, and you are promoted. However, a poor match can lower the percentage, and enough of them will send you back a division.
How party rank works
Ranked builds your lobbies around your current rank, or around the highest-ranked member of your team when you team up with others. Bringing a much higher-ranked friend therefore means tougher opponents for the whole party, and that applies across platforms too, since Ranked supports Fortnite crossplay.
Can you lose rank in Fortnite?
You can lose rank in Fortnite. The lobby shows a progress bar that tracks how close you are to the next rank or to returning to the previous one, and a run of poor results will send you back a division or into the rank below.
There are two safety nets. Epic’s First Match Loss Protection means your first Ranked match of the day cannot set you back if it goes badly, and it applies separately in each Ranked experience. The second is Unreal itself, as players who reach it stay there until the next rank reset.
Rank, Skill Rating, and Power Rankings
Three different measures describe a player’s Fortnite ranking, and they are easy to mix up.
- Rank: The badge from Bronze to Unreal. It belongs to a single season and resets when a new one starts.
- Skill Rating: A rating tied to your Ranked play. It is one of the three Unreal Legends requirements.
- Power Rankings: Epic’s rating for tournament play that is updated weekly. It is built from your 20 best Battle Royale and Reload tournament results, plus a bonus for your Battle Royale and Reload ranks.
Unreal and Unreal Legends ranks in Fortnite
Unreal is the highest of the eight Fortnite ranks. It has no divisions, and every Unreal player gets a position on the Unreal Global Leaderboard instead. That position keeps moving as other players gain progress, so reaching Unreal is where the race for leaderboard placement begins.
Epic added Unreal Legends above Unreal in Chapter 7 Season 3 and describes it as a new Ranked tier for the best of the best. A player has to meet three conditions at the same time to hold it:
- Reach Unreal
- Hold a Skill Rating of at least 2,500
- Place in the top 500 on the Unreal Leaderboard

Dropping below any one of the three removes the status. That makes Unreal Legends different from the ranks below it, because it has to be held and cannot simply be reached. A player who slips out of the top 500 loses Unreal Legends but keeps the Unreal rank.
Does Fortnite rank reset every season?
The Fortnite Ranked system resets ranks at the start of every season, and Epic describes it as partial. However, your Skill Rating now carries over. Epic made that change in June 2026 so that you are still matched with players at a similar skill level after a reset, which means the first lobbies of a new season should be closer to your real level than your badge suggests.
What is a good rank in Fortnite?
Epic does not publish rank distribution figures, so the best picture of the Fortnite ranking ladder comes from third-party trackers. With a sample of more than four million Fortnite Tracker profiles, nearly half of tracked players are in Bronze and about two-thirds in Bronze or Silver.
| Rank | Share of players at that rank or higher |
|---|---|
| Gold I | About 33% |
| Platinum I | About 25% |
| Diamond I | About 16% |
| Elite I | About 10% |
| Champion I | About 4% |
| Unreal | Under 2% |
Fortnite Ranked rewards
Ranked rewards are free cosmetics that unlock as you reach certain ranks, and every season brings a new set. These are the Battle Royale rewards for Chapter 7 Season 4:
| Rank | Reward |
|---|---|
| Gold | Phantom Spray |
| Platinum | Override Counter Back Bling |
| Diamond | Beastly Battle Bus Loading Screen |
| Elite | The Hack ‘n Slasher Pickaxe |
| Champion | Overridden Wrap |
| Unreal | The Unrealizer Pickaxe |

Epic also introduced the Axe of Unreal in Chapter 7 Season 3, a progressive pickaxe for players who reach Unreal. Reaching Unreal again the following season unlocks its next tier, and Battle Royale and Reload each have their own version to earn.
In addition to cosmetics, rank opens the door to competitive play. Epic uses it as an eligibility requirement for its tournaments, including FNCS. Finally, some free Fortnite skins require you to compete against others, so competitive gameplay can increase the value of your Fortnite account without spending any V-Bucks.
