DC Comics to Start Publishing Absolute Batman: The Covers Collections in Hardcover from 2027
DC Comics is to publish Absolute Batman: The Covers in April 2027, collecting every cover from Absolute Batman #1 to Absolute Batman #14, totalling 216 pages, in a hardcover volume, as well as the inked art from Absolute Batman #1. But here’s the problem with this. Absolute Batman has become an industry. Retailers are getting exclusive covers, as well as the titles going to twelfth prints. And while DC Comics has mostly stopped commissioning new art for the latest printings, rather than changing the colour of the logo, there’s still a lot of art for 14 issues, totalling around 200. If there is a volume 2, Absolute Batman #15 had around thirty covers by itself. By issue 20, it was over a hundred. And recently went close to two hundred. Basically, if these volumes continue, you may need a new hardcover every month just to capture that month’s retailer variant covers, and no room for anything else…

This is is all part of the Absolute Batman industry kicking off this year, the comic byScott Snyder and Nick Dragotta now sells over half a million copies to comic book stores, including retailer-exclusive covers. It remains the biggest-selling comic in the direct market, in pretty much every comic book shop. I am aware of comic shop stores that have set up purely because of Absolute Batman. And sales are continuing to climb, even after DC Comics put a cap on the number of retailer-exclusive covers that could be ordered, and new terms and conditions. This is Absolute Batman’s world, we’re just living in it.
