Comic Whitney Cummings said that Netflix cut a joke she made about President Donald Trump during last month’s event honoring <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entertainment/topic/bill-maher” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Bill Maher at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
“They said, ‘We need to cut it from the broadcast,'” she said on her “Good For You” podcast. “And I’m like, ‘Well, it’s already out there. Who cares?’ And they’re like, ‘He will sue you.'”

“I actually heard Trump may come tonight but he couldn’t make it. He got caught in *** traffic.”
That’s a crack about the president’s relationship to the late convicted *** offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was once close with Trump.
As she noted, the joke is already out there ― it went viral the night she made it at the event, in which Maher was given the Mark Twain Prize.
Netflix said it didn’t cut the joke.
The streamer told Puck’s Matthew Belloni that the decision was made by the Kennedy Center.

The Kennedy Center is chaired by Trump and stacked with his allies ― who even added Trump’s name to it, until a judge forced them to remove it.
On her podcast, Cummings couldn’t help but spot the irony of the experience.

“This is the Mark Twain Prize,” she said. “This is the only time that you shouldn’t get censored because it’s about comedians using humor to criticize our elected officials.”
She also said that if Trump did in fact sue, she’d win ― and said she might even have grounds to sue him instead.
But the joke was cut from the special, which begins <a href="https://comicvibe.com/bbc-drama-perfect-for-agatha-christie-fans-is-streaming-now/” title=”BBC drama perfect for Agatha Christie fans is streaming now”>streaming on Netflix this week.
Cummings said the incident led to a realization.

“I am so clear now that when somebody gets offended by something, they are guilty of the thing,” she said. “I just think it’s a little weird that we can’t joke about it.”
