Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) creator and producer Asit Kumarr Modi is looking to take the popular television franchise beyond Indian households and into the global gaming market. Speaking at the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) 2026 in Chennai, Modi discussed Neela Mediatech’s expansion into gaming, animation and educational <a href="https://comicvibe.com/this-weeks-leadership-moves-w-r-berkley-truist-and-penn-entertainment/” title=”This Week’s Leadership Moves: W. R. Berkley, Truist, and PENN Entertainment”>entertainment.
The company, which participated as a key partner and sponsor at the conference, is building an entertainment business around Indian characters and stories that can reach audiences across different platforms and languages.
Gada Electronics crosses 20 million downloads
One of the biggest milestones highlighted during the discussion was the performance of Gada Electronics, a game based on the TMKOC universe.
The game completed two years on October 30, 2026, crossing 20 million downloads.
Modi explained that while familiar television characters can initially attract players, a game’s long-term success depends on the experience it offers.
He highlighted quality, smooth performance, innovation and multilingual accessibility as important factors in retaining players. In-app purchases also form an important part of the company’s gaming business model.
Modi traced his ambition to expand TMKOC beyond television to 2008, when he first began exploring opportunities to develop the show’s intellectual property across different formats.
He also credited Neela Mediatech CEO Harjeet Chhabra for helping develop the business and turn that vision into reality.
Asit Kumarr Modi on AI and storytelling
During the fireside chat, Modi also addressed the growing role of artificial intelligence in entertainment.
While acknowledging that AI can support content creation, he maintained that original storytelling must remain central to the creative process.
He pointed to internationally recognised franchises such as Pokémon, Spider-Man and Aladdin as examples of characters and stories that have remained relevant across generations and entertainment formats.
Neela Mediatech expands into animation and edtech
Beyond gaming, Neela Mediatech is expanding its presence in children’s entertainment and educational content.
TMKOC Rhymes has previously reported more than 20 million subscribers and over 500 million monthly viewers, reflecting the company’s growing reach among younger audiences.
The company is also developing TMKOC PlaySchool, envisioned as Bharat Ki Pathshala, with an emphasis on learning through play.
Looking ahead, Modi indicated that Neela Mediatech is exploring investments in gaming studios and games as part of its expansion strategy.
He also stressed the importance of working with honest and passionate partners to build sustainable businesses.
For Modi, the larger ambition is to transform Indian entertainment properties into globally recognised franchises, using gaming, animation and learning platforms to reach audiences beyond traditional television.
