A 23-year-old Long Island man killed while riding an e-scooter had left home to run errands and was excitedly preparing for Comic Con when he never made it back, according to his family.

David Anthony DeJesus, of Roslyn, died after his e-scooter collided with a 2023 Jeep Wrangler near Dosoris Way and Elliot Place in Glen Cove at about 7:22 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, Nassau County Police said.
Now, his family is raising money to give the young man they described as a “gentle, innocent soul” a final farewell.
“David was only 23 years old and had so much life ahead of him,” organizer Tiffany Rodriguez wrote in a GoFundMe benefiting Laura Corwin.
DeJesus had gone out that day to visit the bank and run several errands, according to the fundraiser.
He was particularly excited because he was preparing to attend Comic Con, “something that meant so much to him,” Rodriguez wrote.
He was wearing a helmet and trying to ride safely, his family said.
“Heartbreakingly, he never made it home,” Rodriguez wrote.
DeJesus was traveling westbound when his e-scooter collided with the Jeep, which was being driven by a 19-year-old woman, police said.
DeJesus was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported, according to police.
DeJesus’ parents are now grieving their son’s sudden death while facing approximately $9,000 in unexpected funeral expenses, according to the fundraiser.
The family said his parents live on a fixed income and launched the campaign to help cover funeral costs while allowing them to focus on grieving.
As of Monday, Aug. 24, the fundraiser had collected $6,645 of its $8,000 goal from 78 donors.
Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, according to the fundraiser.
The police investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
