Radar Toys, Lake Oswego’s new toy and game store located at 16390 Boones Ferry Road, is opening its doors this weekend.
The new toy store is hosting a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on <a href="https://comicvibe.com/skip-the-elaborate-costumes-this-halloween-and-try-these-easy-pop-culture/” title=”Skip the elaborate costumes this Halloween and try these easy, pop culture”>Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, featuring free comic books, prizes, costumes, cosplay, balloon twister, artists and comic authors signing books.
“We chose Lake Oswego because of the strong community here. Part of our mission is to not just be a great toy store but to be part of and involved in the community. I knew Lake Oswego was already a great community from knowing people who live in the area but, when I visited the future home of our store for the first time, I could just feel it was the right decision to join this community,” said owner Richard Goosmann by email.
The sprawling toy store space was decorated with comic book themed artwork on one side and a whimsical enchanted tree on the other.
“There are toys first and foremost. Yeah, we have games and comics, but those are in the back of the store,” said store manager Aaron Cox. “People walking by, the first thing they’re going to see is little kids’ toys, you know, grandma might not come in with her grandchildren if it’s just a bunch of comic books and board games. They’ll see stuffed animals.”
Radar Toys has two other Oregon locations, one in Salem and one in Eugene. Some other notable products include Pokemon and Magic: the Gathering trading cards, board games for all ages and new and vintage comic books.
“We will be holding gaming events at our store and other fun events. We will have gaming play tables set up for use every day. We’ll be working on building and bring together people interested in playing Pokemon, Magic: the Gathering, board games and more. Separate from the game events, we love to have celebrity authors and artist signings at our stores. We hold 4 big events a year at our stores where we bring in all kinds of fun, free, activities for kids and adults,” said Goosmann.
