Meta unveils $1,299 VR glasses, pocket-sized Muse AI device

Muse Charm is expected to ship in December, giving users voice access to Meta’s personal AI agent without opening an app

Meta unveiled a slimmer virtual reality device and a pocket-sized gadget for accessing its Muse artificial intelligence agent at its annual Connect developer conference.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the Meta VR Glasses and Muse Charm on Wednesday as the technology company continued to pursue its metaverse ambitions while expanding its focus on personal AI agents.

The Meta VR Glasses are a smaller and lighter alternative to the company’s Quest headsets. They will cost $1,299.99 when they become available in spring 2027, Meta said.

Weighing about 100 grams, the device is five times lighter than the Quest 3 and uses a two-part design that places its processors and battery in an external puck that can be clipped to a belt, pocket or bag.

The glasses feature a 5K display built with micro-OLED panels and sensors that track users’ eyes and hand movements, reducing the need for handheld controllers.

Users will be able to create multiple virtual displays, turn a table or desk into a keyboard and touchpad, and connect the glasses to other devices to extend their screens. Meta said the device could also be used for films, gaming and video calls featuring photorealistic digital representations of users.

“We have built a new kind of VR device that delivers the same magical feeling of presence and immersion, high-resolution displays and views of the world around you in a form factor that is a pair of glasses for the first time,” Zuckerberg said.

The glasses are Meta’s first new VR device since the company introduced the Quest 3S in 2024.

Meta also previewed the Muse Charm, a handheld device designed to provide quick access to Muse, the company’s recently introduced personal AI agent.

Zuckerberg offered few details about the Charm but said users would be able to speak to the gadget without unlocking a phone or opening an application.

“We’ve packed a lot of technology with this little guy,” he said. “So, if you’re not wearing glasses, this is going to be by far the fastest way to talk to your Muse and to show it what’s going on around you.”

Meta has not announced a price for the Charm. Zuckerberg said the company was finalizing its components and planned to begin shipping it in time for the holiday season in December.

Meta describes Muse as a personal AI agent capable of carrying out tasks including sending emails, booking travel, shopping and completing longer-term projects. It can be accessed through its own application, WhatsApp, the web and Mac computers.

The company also plans to integrate Muse into its AI glasses, allowing the agent to respond to voice commands and act on objects or information seen by the wearer.
