EveryStylishGirl’s Sip N’ Slay Summit returned to New York City last weekend, bringing more than 1,000 attendees to The Glasshouse for conversations about business, beauty, leadership and the creator economy.
The sold-out event, held Saturday (August 29), featured Karrueche Tran, Danessa Myricks, Achieng Agutu, Chelley Bissainthe, Isan Elba, Rakia Reynolds, Sharifa Murdock and more.
Throughout the day, speakers got candid about their experiences building careers and businesses across beauty, fashion, media and entertainment.
Tran joined Isan Elba, Chinyere Agoduand Chelsea Grain-Jefferson for a conversation on building a successful beauty brand, while creators including Bissainthe, Melinda Melrose, Briana Wright and Ana and Lexie Learman discussed turning influence into a sustainable career.
Myricks took the stage for her own keynote, “Success Has No Timeline: The Danessa Myricks Story,” where the Danessa Myricks Beauty founder reflected on her journey in the beauty industry.
For Myricks, saying yes to Sip N’ Slay was an easy decision. “Secretly, that was on my bucket list,” Myricks told Black Information Network. “Why would I not want to speak here? This is a room that I wish was available to me when I was in my 20s, when I was deciding to start a brand.”
Myricks said being surrounded by people who want to see you succeed can have an impact far beyond one event.
“Being able to be in community this way, share, learn, be around people who are rooting for you, who are excited that you’re there, that changes people and it changes how you feel about yourself,” she said. “And it changes how you can participate in this world.”
“I really get to see my possibility in spaces like this,” Myricks added. “So if I can be that for someone else, it’s yes 1,000 times.”
That idea is also at the center of why EveryStylishGirl founder and CEO Nana Agyemang says she created Sip N’ Slay.
“When I started EveryStylishGirl, I wanted to create the kind of room I wished existed when I was building my own media career, a space where Black and Brown women did not have to fight to be seen or prove they belonged,” Agyemang said.
Other conversations throughout the summit explored executive leadership, vulnerability and building community, with speakers sharing lessons from their own careers and experiences.
For Agyemang, the goal is for attendees to leave with something they can use long after the event is over.
