NORTH BRANFORD, CT — North Branford’s new Town Manager, Dr. Scott Nicol, a former K–12 superintendent and education policy leader, wore a new kind of hat when he donned a virtual reality device as part of the North Branford Police Department’s training on its new camera, vehicle camera, and TASER systems.
In a Facebook post, it’s noted that as “part of this year’s budget process,” the Town Council ok’d the new systems, “that resulted in significant savings while improving the capabilities of our police force.”
The new system allows for period equipment upgrades, real-time translation services for a growing non-English-speaking population, and improved training capacity.
As the system is implemented, members of the North Branford Police Department are training on the new virtual reality training modules.
And Nicol tested it out, too.
The town noted that the “technology will allow for a better prepared and trained police force to ensure safety for all.”
