XGRIDS PortalCam unveiled: 3D camera for games, VR and film

    Alexander LazarchukRead 5 minutes0

At the IFA 2026 exhibition, XGRIDS unveiled the PortalCam spatial camera, which transforms real rooms and objects into photorealistic 3D scenes. The device combines four cameras, LiDAR, and a SLAM system, and its output can be used in games, VR, architecture, film, and other 3D projects.

    Features

PortalCam is equipped with four 12-MP cameras with a resolution of 4000 × 3000 pixels: two front-facing and two fisheye-type cameras. The latter each have a field of view of 200° × 200°, while the front-facing cameras have a field of view of 100° × 85°. In all cases, CMOS sensors of 1/2-inch format and rolling shutter are used.

LiDAR covers a field of view of 180° × 180° and captures up to 856,000 points per second. The scanning range is from 0.1 to 30 meters with a surface reflectivity of 10% and reaches 60 meters at 90%. It uses a Class 1 laser with a wavelength of 940 nm.

The SLAM system simultaneously determines the camera’s position and builds a map of the surrounding space, so the operator only needs to move around the room with PortalCam. XGRIDS states that a 100 m² area can be captured in about 10 minutes at a normal walking pace.

Data processing uses LCC Studio. The program creates photorealistic scenes based on the 3D Gaussian Splatting technology. They can be edited, published online, viewed in VR, and integrated into projects for Unity, Unreal Engine, and other platforms using SDK.

PortalCam is designed to create digital copies of real rooms and locations. XGRIDS lists use cases including game development and VR content, architecture and construction, real estate, film and television, virtual production, and digitization of cultural heritage objects.

The 130 × 90 × 77 mm body is made of aluminum alloy. PortalCam weighs 870 grams without a tripod. The built-in storage is rated for 512 GB, and external SSD drives with capacities of 512 GB and 1 TB are also supported. Data transfer is provided02.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and Bluetooth 5.2

The removable lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 23.04 Wh and provides up to 60 minutes of continuous scanning. Charging from 0% to 90% takes about 70 minutes, and to 100% approximately 90 minutes.

    Price

In the US, the standard PortalCam kit is now priced at $4999. It includes a camera, one battery, a smartphone mount, a tripod, and a one-year license for LCC Studio Basic. The PortalCam Premium, featuring two batteries and a one-year license for LCC Studio Premium, is offered at $6399.

European dealers offer the standard kit starting at €3799 excluding VAT. A new shipment of PortalCam is expected in the official XGRIDS store, with deliveries beginning in November.
