Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comes to Switch on July 30th, 2026 with a physical version set to arrive Oct. 1st, 2026. In just a few hours you’ll be able to join Rex and Pyra in their search for paradise, now enhanced for the Switch 2! This version features improved visuals, smoother and sharper cutscenes, new outfit designs for Pyra and Mythra, and more. You can even control up to six Blades directly in the new Merc Assault mode, and discover MOMO—a new rare Blade who can swap between light and dark forms. While all of that’s quite exciting, it turns out there’s yet another big change from the original Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and it’s rather surprising that Nintendo and Monolith Soft haven’t pointed it out.

One gripe Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fans had came from Field Skills, as it was a bit of a cumbersome system. In order to get around the game world you’ll need to have specific elemental masteries, and this is where Field Skills come into play. Specific Blades have Field Skills, such as Fire Mastery Level 3 and so on. Depending on the field checks for certain masteries, you’ll have to spend a lot of time in menus equipping the correct Blade with the Field Skill needed to get around the obstacle.

With Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now available in a few regions, players have discovered a big change to Field Skills. In the Switch 2 revamp, Field Skills now count for every Blade you have. This basically eliminates the need to go menu-hopping to equip Blades for field checks. The only aspect that’s not clear so far is how exactly the game tallies skill points across Blades, but nevertheless, this is still a major improvement on how the system was setup in the original game.
