Xbox has launched another Free Play Days promotion, but this weekend’s offering is notably broader than usual. In partnership with Ubisoft, Microsoft is giving all Xbox users temporary access to five major games without requiring a Game Pass subscription. The promotion includes Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Far Cry 6, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, and The Crew Motorfest, with free access running until the end of Sunday, October 4.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, one of Ubisoft’s large-scale historical RPGs, is arguably the highlight of the promotion. Set in Ancient Greece, the game combines open-world exploration with an extensive campaign. Progress is not capped during the event, so players can go as deep as they like. Those who want to keep the game afterwards can buy it for $11.99, down from $59.99.
Far Cry 6 also joins the line-up as one of Ubisoft’s more well-known open-world first-person shooters. The game takes players to the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, where they become involved in a conflict against its authoritarian ruler. The current purchase price is $8.99, substantially below its $59.99 listed price, but whether the game deserves your weekend is a matter of taste.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandoraexpands the selection with an open-world adventure based on James Cameron’s Avatar universe. Originally presented primarily from a first-person perspective, the game now also includes a third-person mode, giving players another way to experience its exploration and combat. It is available for $16.49 during the promotion rather than its listed $29.99 price.
Skull and Bones takes the action onto the high seas, focusing on piracy and naval combat. The game has received a more mixed reception than some of the other titles included, so gamers now have nothing to lose by giving it a try during Free Play Days. Those who decide to keep playing can currently purchase it for $4.49, down from $29.99.
Last but not least is The Crew Motorfest, an open-world driving game set on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu. It features a large selection of cars, races, events and driving activities inspired by different automotive cultures. Players can explore the island freely or compete in various races and themed campaigns. It provides another distinctly different genre within the five-game lineup and is also the most expensive at its discounted price of of $47.99, down from $59.99.
The promotion gives Xbox owners a limited opportunity to test five Ubisoft games across RPG, first-person shooter, adventure, piracy and racing genres. None require a Game Pass subscription for the free-access period, and there are no restrictions on how far players can progress. However, access ends on October 4, meaning anyone wanting to continue will need to purchase the relevant game after the event.
