We are speeding our way through August at a rate of knots, but for now it’s the weekend – time to chill, and hopefully play some video games. This is our weekly feature where we fill you in on what the team have been playing this week, and we’d also love to hear from you. Complete our poll at the bottom of the article, and let us know – what are you playing this weekend?

    Jon (Sikamicaniko):

“I’ve had a ton of fun this week, and it’s mostly thanks to a new game from Untitled Goose Game developers House House.

Big Walk might at first glance look like another ‘friendslop’ title, but it’s some of the most pure, video game fun I’ve had in ages. It helps of course that I’m playing with some of my closest friends, and while I will have a review out very soon, it’s something I don’t want to rush. I’m savouring every amusing moment, every clever puzzle, and multiple evenings where we team up, chat about life and explore a very well designed video game.

If you have a good group of mates, I cannot recommend it enough.“

    Gyozo (FairyEmpire):

    Mistfall Hunter | Review

“Busy week of gaming, this! On top of preparing the reviews for the new dark fantasy ARPG extraction shooter Mistfall Hunter, and the fascinating King’s Field-inspired adventure Verho – Curse of Faces, I also set up some advance work for two reviews dropping next week.

Interestingly, I spent a lot of time playing various, now classic racers throughout the week. I’ve gone back to revisit various Xbox 360 backwards compatible titles like Burnout Revenge and Ridge Racer 6, on top of also putting serious hours into the slightly more recent Truck Racing Championship and Bus Driving Evo Simulator which is even newer. What can I say? I love to drive in games.

I also ended up reinstalling Ghost Recon Wildlands, as the new 4K 60FPS patch is giving the game new life, finally losing the shackles of the 30FPS console limitation. Still holds up very well, I’d say, definitely one of the finest stealth titles out there with true freedom. Great time, still!“

    Aarsal (SoulBlazerz):

    Halo: Campaign Evolved | Review

“Another week and it’s more… Wuthering Waves! Well, kind of. Yeah I’m continuing the play the game every day, even if it’s just to login, but what I finally completed this week and absolutely adored, was Halo: Campaign Evolved.

I’ve been playing the game on and off since the early access release, but I rolled credits last night and just… Wow. Halo Studios knocked it out of the goddamn park with these last few levels. Two Betrayals, to Keyes, to The Maw, each one kept building on the previous and it was glorious. Hell based on simply having much higher counts of enemies made the Flood feel like, well, a flood. Multiple times where I was just trying my damndest to make it through a tidal wave of enemies and even on Heroic I kept dying on the regular. Also the shotgun, oh man. I have my gripes with the very first Halo, but that godlike weapon sure isn’t one.

It all culminated in, of course, the iconic Warthog run and this was recreated to perfection. From the sprawling view of the entire Pillar of Autumn mid run to the explosive moments when your screen looks like it’s burning, to the tragic fate of certain remaining characters, The Maw has it all. I felt like a kid again in the best possible way during those final moments and I kid you not, I felt my eyes watering up a little during it all.

I don’t care what others say, this is easily the definitive version of this game and I don’t see myself playing the original again anytime soon, if ever.“

    Genghis (SolidusKraken):

“In between tea breaks, I’ve been playing Clone Hero again! My guitar controller skills have fallen behind heavily, but I will not be deterred!!!!

If you don’t know, Clone Hero is a free game that quite literally emulates the Guitar Hero series of games, but as freeware and supporting custom tracks, instruments, and more while having its own setlist of free tracks to play—offered up in kindness by many cool bands including Dragonforce and Thousand Thoughts. It’s fantastic, and it works across Android and PC (Windows/Linux/macOS), so if you’ve been hunkering for a rhythm game just like Rock Band but crossplatform and with a budding community, do check Clone Hero out.”
