Valve slip-up reveals extensive Steam Frame details, including an unboxing video

The Steam Frame gets the early unboxing treatment.

    • A new leak has extensively detailed Valve’s upcoming gaming-oriented Steam Frame VR headset.
    • Among the leaked Valve assets are videos showing the device unboxing, the Ergonomic Accessories Kit, and other tutorials.
    • The company previously said the VR headset will launch this summer, but hasn’t offered a specific timeframe.

It’s been a long wait for the Steam Frame VR gaming headset following its announcement late last year. Valve finally gave us a summer launch timeline for this eagerly anticipated device in June, but we haven’t heard much since then. That’s changing now, as a slip-up has revealed more than half a dozen tutorial videos of the upcoming VR headset and its accessories.

X account Steam Hardware Updates highlights eight videos, including an extensive unboxing video that leaves nothing to the imagination. These videos reportedly come from the ARM-based Steam client. Although Valve has since removed them from its platform, it wasn’t quick enough to avoid the public noticing.

We’re also getting a good look at the Ergonomic Accessories Kit, which will contain a top head strap, two controller hand straps, and an extended light blocker that fits around the nose. This accessory is designed for users with smaller noses who may see light seeping through with the standard light-blocking accessory provided in the retail packaging. Meanwhile, the top head strap improves weight distribution and stability, per the company.

One leaked video explains how to attach the hand straps to the controller, while another details the same process for the top head strap and the extended light blocker. It’s currently unclear if the Ergonomic Accessories Kit will be sold separately or included with the Steam Frame.

Additionally, we’re getting a closer glimpse of the Steam Frame’s IPD (Interpupillary Distance) wheel, which lets you adjust the space between the two lenses. The IPD wheel has a switch-based lock mechanism that retains the spacing for future use.

Other videos published as part of this leak include a demo of the Steam Frame wireless adapter, a fit guide, and a sign-in tutorial, pretty much covering all the bases. This extensive leak suggests that the VR headset’s launch may not be far away. Valve mentioned a summertime release back in June, and with not much longer left until the end of summer, we hope we get our answers about both a release date and pricing details soon.
