Ubisoft’s Big Bet on NFTs Has Been A Disaster!

    • Ubisoft is shutting down Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on October 30, 2026.
    • The NFT-focused RPG lasted roughly two years after Ubisoft bet big on the technology.
    • The shutdown practically confirms that Ubisoft’s blockchain gaming strategy failed

A few years ago, Ubisoft decided to push for NFT integration in games. The French gaming giant launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles as part of this push, aiming to push NFT figures as part of the core experience.

Fast forward to today, and Ubisoft has now announced that it is shutting down this controversial title.

Why it matters: NFT integration in games was always a bizarre concept, and players were quick to speak out against it. Ubisoft remained adamant that the technology had a lot of potential, but it seems this may not have been the case.

The NFT Experiment Appears To Have Failed

Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles has lasted just two years on the market, andthe game is scheduled to end service on October 30, 2026, as confirmed by the game’s official website.

As a reminder, the title used NFT champions as part of its RPG gameplay systems. Ubisoft hoped players would trade the in-game units and champions over the blockchain market for cash or cryptocurrency.

Note that Ubisoft even attempted to make this game playable without the NFT elements on Steam. However, this version, dubbed Champions Tactics Reforged, did little to improve the situation.

Interestingly enough, Ubisoft has still not entirely walked away from blockchain gaming. Launched earlier this year, Might and Magic Fates continues the French publisher’s NFT experiment, allowing players to buy and sell cards for cryptocurrency or cash.

Of course, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this title meet the same fate as Ubisoft’s Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.

Ubisoft May Have Found Its Big Break With Black Flag Resynced

The good news is that another one of Ubisoft’s recent experiments has been quite a success. As such, the gaming giant may soon focus on remakes and completely abandon its focus on NFTs.
