Dancing With the Starscontestant Tyler Cameron says remaining in the competition is not allabout ruling the dance floor.
The Bachelorettealum mounted his argument in a recap of this week’s episode after lamenting that his fellow contestant, Guillermo Rodriguez, had been eliminated despite having given his all.
“I think that’s what people are missing and losing in this dance competition, is it’s about people’s journeys and people’s improvements and people growing and learning and becoming better and what dance opens up for them,” Cameron said on TikTok. “It’s not always about the best dancer. That’s why there’s the people’s vote. That’s why you get to see the journey and root them on, and want them to go further.”
Cameron also noted that he and partner Sharna Burgess had been among the final contestants awaiting their fate as it was revealed who was leaving the competition, which is based on judges’ scores and votes from viewers.
“Never fun in that moment. I am having the best time ever, just being here dancing, getting to enjoy this, growing my friendship and my partnership with Sharna week-to-week has been just a dream,” Cameron said. “She’s like the big sister I never could have imagined I needed. We’ve been so good for each other and are in each other’s lives at this point, so it’s been great.”

There was a but coming.
“But at the same time, Guillermo was eliminated, and Guillermo is somebody that, he literally is the brightest light in the room everywhere that he goes,” Cameron said of Jimmy Kimmel’s sidekick on the comedian’s late-night talk show.
Cameron gave the example of when he’s “having a bad day on the dance floor, when I can’t get steps and I’m cussing and yelling at myself,” it was Rodriguez who made him smile.
“He just flips my day into a good day immediately,” Cameron said. “Every time I see him, he’s doing something funny, and I’m smiling.”
The reality TV star said if contestants were chosen solely by the judges, he might not be there.
“It’s all about the improvement and the journey,” Cameron said, adding that “it should be celebrating people putting themselves out there.”
“Seeing Guillermo go is going to stink. I hope he comes back around and hangs out, because he just makes everything better when he’s around,” he added.

Cameron is not alone in feeling that way.
After Rodriguez was eliminated on Tuesday’s episode, his fellow contestants were sad to see him go.
He and his pro partner, Witney Carson, earned their highest score yet, a 22 out of 40 for a salsa to Bad Bunny’s “Tití Me Preguntó,” but it wasn’t enough.
Rodriguez’s departure followed the surprising goodbye toSummer Housestar Ciara Miller, who danced with pro Brandon Armstrong.
Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
