Batman Day is shaping up to be a double-barrel showcase for Gotham’s premier protector.

During DC’s Gotham City panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the publisher unveiled Batman of Two Worlds #1, an ambitious one-shot landing in comic shops globally on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The landmark issue puts DC’s mainline Dark Knight side-by-side with the blue-collar, juggernaut version taking the world by storm in Absolute Batman.

The Twist: Same Mystery, Different Universes

If you are expecting a traditional multiverse multiverse-collision where the two Batmen team up to punch each other before shaking hands, guess again. DC stressed that the two heroes will not be meeting face-to-face in this issue.

Instead, Batman of Two Worlds #1 delivers a clever “side-by-side” comparative study. Both Batmen are confronted with the exact same criminal premise—a high-stakes bank robbery that uncovers deep-seated structural corruption. The issue will contain two distinct, interlinked stories showing how each version approaches the investigation using their drastically different moral frameworks, re

    The Heavy-Hitting Creative Lineup:

    • Mainline DCU Batman Story: Written by Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), illustrated by Javier Fernández (Nightwing), colored by Tomeu Morey, and lettered by Clayton Cowles.
    • Absolute Universe Batman Story: Written by Scott Snyder (Absolute Batman), illustrated by Nick Derington (Doom Patrol), colored by Frank Martin, and lettered by Tom Napolitano.

Speaking at the SDCC panel, both writers broke down the philosophy behind pairing the two interpretations.

“You have two different looks at Batman—the moral structures, the ethical structures, the political structures. A chance to put them side-by-side and see the similarities and differences,” said Matt Fraction. “The challenge of any Batman story for me is not ‘will he solve the problem,’ but ‘how will he solve the problem.’”

“Our Absolute Batman story is a bank robbery, and it’s largely about, for us, not just how he takes down the criminals, but who the real criminals are behind all of it,” added Scott Snyder. “Our Batman kind of has to punch the wall down and go in… he’s a force of nature. The mission was to show what’s special about each version, and how they both have the same heart.”

DC also confirmed during a closed-door presentation at the convention that Batman of Two Worlds #1 will be an exclusive physical release for local comic shops—meaning it will not be available digitally on day one or sold through big-box mass market retailers.

Whether you prefer the seasoned, high-tech detective of Earth-0 or the axe-wielding, working-class juggernaut of the Absolute Universe, Batman of Two Worlds #1 offers a fascinating lens into what truly makes Bruce Wayne tick regardless of continuity.
