Great shows come and go, and I’ve either made my way through a number of highly scored ones, or I’m already in the middle of them (Siloseason 3, currently). But now there’s a brand new series that has amassed a great Rotten Tomatoes score from critics.

The show is Sterling Pointon Amazon Prime Video, which just released today, August 5, on the service. It has a 93% Rotten Tomatoes scorefrom critics and a very interesting creator.

That would be Megan Park, who may be best known for her 121-episode run starring in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which ran from 2008 to 2013. She’s been in two dozen projects since, however, she’s found success recently in directing. Park directed the comedy My Old Asswith Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella, and the harrowing school shooter drama The Fallout with Maddie Ziegler and a pre-WednesdayJenna Ortega. Now, she’s branching into another different genre, where Sterling Pointis a mystery blended with romance. Here’s the synopsis:

“Follow 17-year-old Annie Jacobson, raised in New York City with her twin brother and loving adoptive father; Annie’s life takes a turn when she inherits her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada.”

Jacobson is played by Ella Rubin, who is not 17, but 24, as often happens with these sorts of castings. She’s been in a few high-profile projects like Fear Street: Prom Queen, Masters of the Air and even the Oscar-winning Anora, which is quite the achievement.

Sterling Pointhasn’t ranked on Amazon’s Top 10 list yet, given that it was just released today, but if audiences agree with critics here, it could rise quickly. #1 right now is Ride or Die, a 98% Rotten Tomatoes-scored comedy, one of the best of that genre the entire year. I believe that makes it tied with Widow’s Bay, in fact.

Amazon, as it sometimes does with first-season, lower-profile shows, has dropped all of Sterling Pointas a binge release today. More proven shows may get a double-episode premiere and a weekly release from there, but this is what they did with Off CampusandRide or Dietoo, and both of those worked out swimmingly.

So, if you’re looking for a new mystery series mixed with a bit of romance from a proven director, it seems like Sterling Point should be your next watch. I’ll be checking it out this week and will report back with my thoughts soon.
